Brilliant Club Graduation - Maths and Physics
On Saturday 26 September, 12 pupils were given the opportunity to celebrate their achievements in The Brilliant Club programme by attending the graduation event at The University of Sussex in Brighton.
The pupils taking part in the programme were given the task of finding out ‘can the stars float in a bath?’, a project aimed at extending their maths and physics understanding.
PhD tutor, Daniel Portelli came into school to deliver five university-style tutorial sessions with the boys, who were also given homework to complete between sessions. During the summer holidays, the boys took time to complete their final assignment which was submitted online and marked by Daniel. The boys did extremely well, with all of them passing and most of which achieving a 1st grade (above 70%).
As part of the celebration, we were given the opportunity to visit the University of Sussex, have a tour with current students, a study skills session and a chance to discuss future prospects and how best to achieve them. The boys thoroughly enjoyed this and were able to ask questions about what A levels they might need to do, how the university applications process works and where they might want to study in the future.
Parents and carers were also invited to the trip to share in celebration, but also to be delivered sessions on how best to support the boys in their future endeavours, something that the parents really enjoyed.
I would like to pass on my congratulations to all the boys who took part in the programme and came along to the graduation event, your hard work truly paid off! A special mention goes to Shay and Cian who achieved Distinctions in their assignments for achieving 97% and 90% respectively. Well done.
The boys will also be taking part in the Principal's breakfast on the 9 October as part of our rewards scheme for those who do the right thing and show a thirst for learning.
