Year 10 Footballers Triumph In Inner London Cup Tie
A Kensington 4G pitch in the shadow of Grenfell Tower set the scene for Harris Boys’ latest triumph on the road, this time in the Inner London Cup.
Mr Butterworth heroically stepped up to drive the Year 10 boys across London for a 2nd round tie against Kensington Aldridge Academy, and the match couldn’t have got off to a worse start. A long ball was allowed to bounce in defence and Stanley’s clearance rebounded against the Kensington striker and into the net.
The first half meandered on with both sides huffing and puffing but struggling to impose themselves on the other. One nil at the break.
The second half was one way traffic. Joshua imperiously shut down the midfield which allowed Daouda and Casper to start pulling strings. The inevitable equaliser came with 15 minutes to go, Rayane playing a lovely flick into Aaron’s path for him to coolly slot in off the post.
But, cometh the hour, cometh the man; with two minutes left a long throw into the box was controlled by David who swivelled and lashed the ball in low to complete the comeback. In the dying moments of the game Aaron, who had terrorised his full back all game, was brought down in the box and confidently converted his penalty to round off a deserved win.
A resounding win which will send a shudder down the spine of every other team in the competition. Harris Boys’ march on.
