HBAED Rampant In Harris Cup As Winning Streak Continues
Having been arranged, postponed, rearranged, postponed and rearranged again, this Harris Cup 2nd round match against Harris Wimbledon finally took place on a rainy Thursday afternoon as Year 10 travelled across South London.
HBAED came into the match with an unbeaten streak in competitive matches in Year 10 and were keen to continue that with a bright start. Inside five minutes Oliver pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and smashed past the goalkeeper, left footed to put us ahead. The first half turned scrappy, as neither side could impose themselves in midfield and a few half chances came to nothing for HBAED. With 10 minutes left of the first half a Wimbledon free kick on the edge of the penalty area was fired into the corner of the net to level the score and send both sides in at the break 1-1.
From the very start of the 2nd half HBAED were a different side: physical and aggressive, whilst making their superior quality shine through. Early on, good work from Casper and Omar released Oliver towards the left of the penalty area, who chopped back onto his right foot and arced a curling shot into the far corner of the goal for his second of the game. This set the pattern for the rest of the 2nd half and the third goal was eerily similar, this time Aaron burned past a defender on the left side and rifled in a low shot into the bottom right corner to give us breathing space.
Three substitutes came on to freshen the side up, Ishmael being one of them, and he immediately got involved in the game by curling a defence splitting pass in behind to Aaron for the faintest of touches to nudge the ball past the goalkeeper into the corner. Aaron then repaid the favour, again marauding past his full back and cutting the ball back from the touchline for Ishmael to sweep into the net for his first goal in an Orange Shirt. Ishmael then put the icing on the cake with his second goal in only his third game, the defence opened up ahead of him as he motored through on goal and lashed in low past the helpless Wimbledon goalkeeper.
HBAED march on into the 3rd round of the Harris Cup, 6-1 winners!
