Students Enter National 'Write on Art' Competition
This week five of our Year 10 Art students were privileged to take part in an art workshop held at James Allen's Girls’ School for students taking part in the annual national Write on Art competition.
Open to all England and Wales students in Years 10-13, our students will select one piece of artwork featured on the Art UK website and write about it. Winners in each group will win a cash prize and have their essays featured on the Art UK and Paul Mellon Centre websites.
The workshop commenced with presentations from the competition organisers and from Dulwich Picture Gallery, discussing themes and suggestions for students to consider in their submissions.
Our students worked in groups alongside students and teachers from neighbouring Southwark schools to analyse pieces of both classic fine art and contemporary art before giving their own expressions.
All five students were glowing ambassadors for HBEAD school and the Arts department. With impeccable behaviour and enthusiasm, the boys were fully engaged during the event, displaying an eloquent use of language and confidence in their presentations. We anticipate winning pieces of art-writing among our student’s entries later this year.
