Harris Boys' Alumni, Alfie, on his STEM Career with Network Rail

Past student Alfie got in touch to tell us all about his early STEM career at Network Rail.

My name is Alfie and I am a Planning Assistant for Network Rail. My key responsibilities are procuring and raising infrastructure orders for the contractors who work for Network Rail, but I am also learning about all aspects of planning.

The most enjoyable aspect of my job is working with my team and having a different task to do each day as no two days are the same. One day could be really quiet and the next day could be really busy. It's a great environment to work in.

My hot tip to get a job with Network Rail is to persevere, and also know what part of the company you would like to work for as Network Rail has plenty of career paths, whether that be working as a Signaller, a Customer Service Assistant, a HGV Driver or a Planning Assistant.
