Felix, Year 10, Nominated for Young Game Designers Award
Felix, Year 10, has been nominated for the BAFTA Young Game Designers award after teaching himself new programming skills from tutorials on YouTube.
The annual BAFTA Young Game Designers competition challenges 10-18 year-olds to design their dream videogame.
"I designed POLY City Racecourse, which is a 3D arcade car racing game, in about a month while learning a new programming language and game engine from tutorials on YouTube," said Felix.
"I was nominated for the Game Making 10-14 category after months of anticipation, putting me in the top ten of entrants from across the UK. Although I didn't win, I received a goody bag of games and prizes, and was invited to attend a two-day event in BAFTA's Central London HQ, where I met past winners and industry professionals."
POLY City Racecourse is fast-paced game, with jumps and tight turns, while challenging players to make it to the top of the leaderboard. You can play POLY City Racecourse for free at https://gotm.io/felixm/poly-city-racecourse.
"I learned valuable insights into developing games and creating better concepts from people with first-hand experience in the games industry," said Felix. "I'm excited to learn more and hopefully go a step further and win next year! After attending the event, I made improvements to make the game easier to play based on the feedback from the people who tried it."

We love supporting our students to explore the creative industries, which contribute over £100bn to the UK economy each year, with London at the sector's creative heart.
Through regular trips to art galleries, theatres, the Guildhall and Sky Studios, for example, we try to provide the boys with life-changing experiences that inspire them to consider a career in the creative industries.
