Art Director Stephanie Clerkin Runs Workshops on Film Careers
Students attended three workshops in film appreciation recently, run by Stephanie Clerkin, who works in the film industry as an Art Director.
Stephanie was highly impressed by the warmth shown to her by students and the level of interest they showed in the topics discussed in the workshop.
As an art director, Stephanie is responsible for designing sets, overseeing construction workers and other artists, and helping to figure out the aesthetic of a movie production.
Stephanie demonstrated her work and knowledge of the industry with tales and examples of her time in Warner Brothers, Pinewood Studios, Universal, Dreamworks and Disney - including her stints abroad in South Africa and most recently in Italy for the blockbuster A Haunting in Venice.
A lot of Stephanie's employment came from the recent Harry Potter spin-off trilogy, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise. Students were eager to question and gain insights into the film world with many students wishing to pursue employment in film-related roles including acting, writing, camera work and location scouting.
Stephanie advised students on where and how to look for such openings. All films that Stephanie has worked on were familiar to all students. The session concluded with the introduction of the actual wand prop used in the most recent movie from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise, which Year 10 student Ronnel was eager to use to cast spells on the rest of the class.
The visit was coordinated and scheduled by Assistant Principal Jamie Allison and Curriculum Leader Marc Clerkin.
Jobs in film. Sessions for both Key Stages 3 and 4 gave students the chance to learn about film-related roles including acting, writing, camera work and location scouting.
