Football - Bacon's 1 HBAED 0
The year 10 squad travelled to Bacon’s College for the Inner London Cup this week and, unfortunately, the result did not go our way.
The students were on the front foot from kick off, taking every opportunity to cut through Bacon’s defence with pace and skill. Individual displays from Shamar, Ernest, Ahmed and Joshua provided numerous opportunities and free kicks. There was no significant lack of composure from HBAED, but an outstanding goalkeeper display from the home side kept the score at 0-0 for almost the entire match. A few free kicks went adrift, and HBAED were not as clinical as they have been previously.
Bacon’s were frustrated and without a shot at goal for the entire first half thanks to a solid back four, Thomas A, Mamadaliu, Sam and Dennis.
A special mention goes to Mamadaliu (pictured) for an impressive debut, commanding from the back with poise and leadership. Mamadaliu clinched the Man of the Match award, just ahead of a fantastic performance from Shamar.
After a long ball took an extra bounce in the HBAED half, Bacon’s took a stab at the loose ball and managed to poke it into the net. With only two minutes to go, HBAED peppered the Bacon’s goal, only to see an effort from Joshua tipped over the bar in acrobatic style and a low shot from Ahmed to be pushed off the post for a corner.
The game ended with disappointment as HBAED took a 1-0 loss that was not representative of a very strong performance.
A special mention must go out to Mr Duffett, who assisted and managed from the side-lines. The students always appreciate staff support and were particularly thankful for Mr Duffett’s presence and advice at a difficult away fixture.
