Football - HBAED 3 St Thomas the Apostle 4
Our Year 7 team pressured St Thomas the Apostle (STAC) in their own half of the pitch from the outset, resulting in several early chances with their defence beaten.
A powerful corner whipped into the box led to a deflection off a committed defender, who directed the ball past the STAC goalkeeper. From here our team demonstrated their dominance, worrying the baffled defenders, resulting in a second scored by Jesse.
Unfortunately just before half time STAC managed to get a goal against the run of play from a corner, giving them an escape route from a whitewash.
Difficult conditions
The second half began as the first ended, with STAC again taking advantage of the conditions, with many of our players losing their footing at crucial times in both attack and defence.
The majority of the half was build upon disruptive play, with limited shots taken by both teams. Unfortunately, several communicative and defensive errors led to two more goals for STAC who continued to break up our attack at every opportunity.
Revival
With a bouncing strike from the half way line outwitting the goalkeeper to bring HBAED within one goal from extra-time, the team started their revival fight too late to really challenge the opposition's lead.
As their first defeat of an already busy start of the season, the team were disappointed but looking forward to the challenge of the cup match next week against Harris Battersea. The bitter taste of defeat will hopefully spur the team to rekindle the attitude and work rate produced in previous matches to get back to winning ways.
Man of the Match was Dario (pictured), who offered the team endless amounts of grafting work-rate in both defence and attack. This attitude and his previous performances have opened the door for a call up to the Year 8 team.
