Band SD*JEM Deliver Drug Education Presentation
Upcoming band SD*JEM attended the Academy to deliver a drug education and life skills presentation to Year 7 and 8 students.
SD*JEM have been defined by BBC Radio 1 as “the band to watch.” Notching up over 400,000 hits on their first YouTube video, SD*JEM are about to break the music industry. The band write all of their own music and have already supported The Saturdays and Cher Lloyd on tour. They have delivered the drug education programme to more than 80 schools already.
The session at HBAED began with a performance by the band. This was followed by the drug education and life skills presentation, a Q&A sessions with students about the presentation and finally they signed autographs for any boys who wanted them. The live performance was so powerful that when the drug education message was being delivered the boys were completely engaged and receptive.
The core substances discussed were alcohol, tobacco, and some illicit drugs like marijuana. Within the DARE approved drug education message, SD*JEM included examples of how they made good life choices when they were offered these substances when they were at school. They talked through how these situations arose, their reaction and what they did along with the risks and consequences of the situation. The main message of the presentation was “to make the right decisions in life”, and “to live a healthy lifestyle”
