Confident Display Takes Year 7 to National Cup 5th Round
Eden Park 0-2 HBAED
Our Year 7 Football team travelled to Eden Park High School to take on their National Cup 4th round tie.
They faced a tough opposition and in even tougher conditions given how big the pitch was.
The pitch size led to a sloppy start, with HBAED struggling to find the rhythm we’d shown in previous rounds in terms of keeping possession of the ball.
Colman was strong in goal to keep the score at 0-0 and the defensive displays of Yahya, Bilal and Josh ensured we had a platform to build on.
Later in the first half, we started to get things going. Endless pressing from Omar and William created chances for us to attack. Posi, Malachi and Harrison were all unlucky to see great efforts not hit the back of the net. The game was a complete stalemate at half time, with a rare 0-0 scoreline leaving both teams plenty to think about over the break.
Confidence and ambition
The second half started with HBAED beginning to take control. Khiyari came on to provide strength in defence and this was evident with a superb tackle and great positioning.
Our dominance was beginning to show, as we continued to create. Harrison then received the ball out wide and delivered a superb cross…. this was the chance. Posi found a great position in space in the box and remained calm to steer us 1-0 Infront!
The team had no interest in sitting back at this point, as they continued the front foot. Just three minutes later, Harrison found himself in a similar position on the opposite wing and delivered an almost identical ball across the face of goal. Different player, same outcome… Malachi struck us into a 2-0 lead!!
The game was played out with sheer confidence and ambition to keep a clean sheet but also attempt to score even more goals. Full time came and this was a clear indication of how good this team can play. On to Round 5 – the last 64 school teams in the country!
A huge well done to Colman, Khiyari, Yahya, Joshua, William, Harrison, Posi, Malachi, Bilal & Omar. A brilliant win!
Players of the match
William – The engine in the midfield.
Malachi – A well-deserved goal to cap off a great display.
