Football - Year 7 - HBAED 4 STAC 7
On Tuesday, the Year 7 football team made their first appearance in a friendly against St Thomas the Apostle College (STAC).
Whilst their opponents had much of the early possession, it was HBAED who took the lead with some lovely one-touch football, working the ball fluently in to our first half talismen, Joshuah Mason and Steve Gody, who found Rowland Hamilton in space and with an eye for goal.
1-0 up, HBAED started to have the lion's share of possession. However, their prowess going forward unfortunately left space in behind the midfield which STAC did well to capitalise on, scoring successive goals to take the score to 3-1.
Fighting to stay in the game, Steve Gody found the back of the net following a weaving run which left STAC falling over their feet, followed shortly after by a lovely half-volley from the tricky Bilal Afzal to make it 3-3.
With two HBAED squads worth of players all raring to get on the pitch, multiple substitutes understandably meant that the flow of our game was stifled slightly. However, that isn’t to take away from the incredible work our fresh legs put in once on the pitch.
Conceding a few quick goals did little to deter them, and once settled, our subs fought valiantly, defended with resilience and played lots of expansive, attacking football which resulted in a late goal from Karlyle Jackson. Overall, an excellent first team performance and lots to look forward to in the future.
Man of the Match: Joshuah Mason: confident on the ball when in tight situations and always looking to find a pass that took the team forward towards the opposition's danger area.
Stepping up: Nashawn Blake-Black: excellent display when stepping into a defensive role. He commanded those around him and didn’t panic when in pressurised situations.
