Year 7 Football - Seven-a-Side Tournament
Friday saw our 'orange' and 'blue' teams take the short trip to Bacons College to participate in a 7-a-side tournament against 13 other local schools.
Well aware of the challenge that lay ahead and spurred on by the collective support of our ‘orange’ team, our ‘blue’ side opened their account following an opening created by a delightful flick around corner from Elyeon, leaving Nyake with just the keeper to beat.
At 1-0, the blues were resolute in defence and came within seconds of securing a victory in their first game, an accolade that slipped from their grasp following a precision strike from the opposition. They ended 4th in their group after recording a win in their final match, a well deserved reward.
Competitive football
Our ‘orange’ team had a tough start to the tournament, conceding three against the overall runners-up, yet fought back with a real appetite for competitive football, marking up two wins and a draw in their remaining games.
Their standout performance was one in which they should have undoubtedly added more to our goals tally, however Michael showed real instinct in-front of goal, seeing him place two past the opposition keeper.
Even with seven points gained, it is testament to all other schools involved that we came third in the group, a clear indicator to the genuine quality this team is due to face in their upcoming seasons against schools in the south London area.
Overall, all players involved represented the school with great maturity and sportsmanship, well done.
Man of the tournament: Michael managed to find the back of the net on occasions where the scoreline wasn’t representative of our performance.
Stepping up: Peter and Emmanuel gave sterling performances, neither looking out of place in their first appearances at this level.
