Historic England Workshop for Harris Experience Students
Pupils travelled to Harris Academy Chobham recently for a workshop on Designating Heritage, presented by Historic England, the public body that looks after over 400,000 historic sites across the country.
The students discovered that Historic England looks after not only ancient buildings of cultural and aesthetic importance, but also some from as recently as the 1990s. Their sites range from prehistoric monuments to parks, battlefields and even a zebra crossing or two.
The students were given a case study of a local London building and asked to make an argument for it to be placed on the listed building register or to be discarded. The pupils worked in different teams with various buildings to investigate, successfully presenting their findings to the other members of the seminar.
Well done to all who attended and to those that helped to make the trip a success.
