HBAED Connects With Students in Rural India
Students at Harris Boys are currently participating in the ROAR Challenge, a schools enterprise competition aimed at providing literacy intervention support for students in West Bengal.
Our boys are currently in the process of starting their own social enterprise that will help fund this literacy programme, whilst developing their own understanding of how to run a business.
Last week saw the first Skype meeting (pictured right) between students at Harris Boys’ and the students they are supporting in West Bengal. Our students got the chance to speak face-to-face with their counterparts in India to understand more about each others’ way of life and culture. Questions such as ‘What’s your favourite sport?’ and ‘How long does it take you to get to school?’ provided half an hour of stimulating conversation that both parties thoroughly enjoyed.
The ROAR challenge is run by Rural India School Enterprise (RISE). RISE is currently in the process of fundraising for ‘RISE on Wheels’, a project aiming to provide a mobile learning hub for students in hard to reach areas of West Bengal. Your support would be greatly appreciated! All that needs to be done is to click on the following link and then click on the red link on the right hand side to vote: http://wheelysdreams.com/rise/.
Many thanks for your support.
