Football - Year 7 - HBAED 4 COLA 2
Tuesday afternoon saw the Year 7 football team play their third game in as many weeks. Following a good win in the inner London cup last week, the boys were in high spirits in the minibus en route to the game.
HBAED started slowly and most of the early chances fell to COLA. The midfielders were pushing too high, leaving Nasir and Larry facing an onslaught from the opposing attackers. However, some last ditch tackles and some fine saves from David in goal kept the score at 0-0.
Full flow
Bilal began to sit slightly deeper, providing some much needed support for the defence, allowing Tayo to roam free, creating some much needed space for the HBAED attack.
Midway through the first half the ball broke down the right and fell at the feet of the tricky Lemar. Skipping past a couple of challenges, Lemar cooly slotted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper. HBAED were now in full flow. The ball once again fell to the feet of Lemar who scored a carbon copy of his first goal. Half time arrived and HBAED had had two chances and scored both of them.
Shell shocked
After the interval, Harris seemed to take their foot off the gas and let COLA back in the game. A lack of concentration in defence allowed COLA to pull a goal back. The next goal was going to be important.
COLA had the bit between their teeth and continued to dominate the game. Their hard work was rewarded with a second goal. HBAED looked shell shocked.
If HBAED were to get anything from this game now, it was going to take a lot of character. Nasir began to calm the troops, getting the ball down and playing it out from the back. A clipped ball released the goal-hungry Lemar, who completed his hat-trick with a cleverly taken finish.
Best goal of the game
With five minutes to go, Harris rubbed salt in the wounds of their arch-rivals with the best goal of the game. David won the ball deep in his own area, playing a nice pass to Nasir, Nasir played a clever pass into Bilal, who released the marauding Joshua. Joshua controlled the ball nicely on his chest before thumping it past the sorry COLA keeper.
