On Tuesday afternoon the Year 7 football team travelled to Harris Orpington for the first round of the Harris Cup. This was to be the first of three cup games this week and the boys knew a good result would set them up nicely for the remaining games.

HBAED started in full control and found themselves 3-0 up thanks to two coolly taken finishes from the prolific Lemar and a long range effort from the lively Ramari.

Orpington could have capitulated at this point, but it was HBAED that did just that. Two defensive errors put Orpington right back in the game. Half time couldn’t come soon enough.

The next goal was going to be a big one and it was Orpington that grabbed it. Orpington’s number 10, arguably the best player on the pitch, evaded five tackles before sliding the ball past the onrushing Nour in goal.

East Dulwich’s target man Joshua put HBAED back in front before another defensive error allowed Orpington right back in the game.

Lemar wasn’t up for letting this game slip out of our hands and once again scored putting HBAED 5-4 up, completing his hat-trick in the process. HBAED just needed to defend the lead for three minutes.

However, Orpington had other ideas and pounced on another defensive mix up. The game finished 5-5.

Extra time ended goalless, meaning the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued. Harris Orpington scored 15 consecutive penalties before HBAED critically missed. A great game for the neutral but a hard pill to swallow for the young Harris team. Can they bounce back in the South London Cup on Wednesday….?
