Boys Row Queen's Rowbarge, Gloriana
A team of Post-16 students from HBAED got a chance to row the Queen’s rowbarge, Gloriana, as part of a special competition in October.
The competition saw our students take to the Thames in conventional rowing boats to learn the basics, assisted by a coach from London Youth Rowing. It was their first ever time in a rowing boat but it quickly became evident that our team had the power and competitive edge to go far. Led by our strokes, Kayden and Wariz, the boys looked good in practice on the Royal Albert Dock, with their coach saying they were the strongest team she had seen on the water.
Although the time trial did not go as planned, the team pulled it around to win the deciding straight race by two lengths, which meant they had the honour of rowing the Queen’s rowbarge. Congratulations to HBAED rowers Kayden, Wariz, Joseph, Jordan, Lamar, Alfie, Alex, Russel, Dean, Kai and Myron.
All the boys were a credit to HBAED with both Wariz and Kayden featuring on the BBC news. Watch them below!
