Award Recognises our Commitment to Equality
Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich has become the first academy in the Harris Federation to achieve the prestigious EQualities Award for a second consecutive time.
The EQualities award is a national scheme aimed at all schools who want to demonstrate their commitment to equality. To achieve the award our academy had to undergo a rigorous audit to show how we were putting our commitment to equality into action.
Continued commitment to equality
Head of Academy Peter Groves said: "We're very proud to have demonstrated our continued commitment to equality and to have our successes in promoting equality with our students recognised by this national award."
Executive Principal Chris Everitt added: "Our staff and students are passionate in their commitment to equality and in meeting high expectations regardless of background. No matter what your age, ability, ethnicity, religious belief or sexual identity you will be supported to succeed at Harris Boys Academy."
Equalities champion
Like all public bodies, schools and academies have a statutory duty under the Equality Act 2010 to advance equality of opportunity, foster good relations and tackle discrimination against individuals and groups irrespective of gender, disability and ethnicity. The EQualities Award pays tribute to those schools and academies that go the extra mile to become equalities champions. To gain the award, which is recognised by Ofsted, staff and governors undertook a thorough review of the academy’s policies and practice and supplied a wide range of evidence for external verification.
Director of the EQualities Award, Dr Chris Derrington said: "I am thrilled to confirm that Harris Boys' Academy has now attained the EQualities Award for the second time, [clearly displaying] your continued commitment to equality. Sincere congratulations to you and to everyone at your academy on this achievement."
