Harris Cup - Rainham 1 HBAED 2
Last night the Year 11 boys edged their way into the Harris Cup final to defend their title in a very close game with Harris Rainham. Rainham are new to the Harris academies and we have never encountered them before so we took a long journey out to Essex knowing we had a tough game on our hands.
The game was so even at the start, neither team creating many chances and credit to Jordan, Connor and Inbrahim, who held our defence solid throughout. Tyrell, who was back in the team after a long absence showed incredible strength and speed when he burst through from the half way line to cooly slot past their keeper to put us one nil up after 20 minutes.
Dominating
Aziz and Amine then began to boss the game as our full back got forward. Aziz picked up an injury and Yaya (Year 10) came on to replace him. Yahya absolutely bossed the game down the left, with pace and good technique. A particular shout out to his defensive duties too. We were dominating the game, when Tyrel pounced on a dodgy touch from their left back, John got on the end of this mistake, driving in a low shot towards the keeper who got his foot to it, but Enry was there to slot home from the rebound to put us two nil up at the break.
The second half saw us sit back a little bit as Enry dropped into midfield. We caught Rainham on the break a few times, but couldn’t finish. With 15 minutes to go a through ball split us open and their striker slotted home to make it a tense last 15 minutes. From here on we sat back and defended so well. Gibril marshalled the back three with his usual discipline, whilst Mukthar worked hard in the middle of the pitch for us. A few late free kicks were confidently dealt with by George and we secured our place in the Harris Cup Final.
Our Harris Cup final is due to be played at Chelsea FC training ground. If any staff would like to attend the game can you please ask CMA for details.
Many thanks to Mr Brett and Mr Bray for covering the PE department to allow the fixture to happen.
