Year 11 are Southwark Basketball Champions
Harris Boys' started the Under 16 Southwark Schools Basketball Tournament with a completely dominant win against Charter School, racking up a 20 point lead within the first 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, this was at the cost of losing David who limped off after forcing a foul against him, which tightened our already limited squad. The team did not let this affect their performance, however, and they went on into the next match against the hosts Dulwich College as favourites.
Dulwich College had just started to find form in their previous game and held the lead until the last two minutes of the match. Some excellent game management from HBAED allowed us to take the lead and hold possession to scrape the win. This secured the team a place in the semi-finals where a comfortable win against St Thomas Apostle College (STAC) saw HBAED ending the group stage as top seeds.
In the next round we faced a physical Sacred Heart team who had overpowered most of the teams in their group. Nevertheless, HBAED strategically controlled the game from the start until the end, only gifting half chances and 50/50s to the opposition. In the other semi a nervy STAC team beat UAE in extra time to set up a group stage replay in the final. STAC had regalvanized and came out fighting. However, the class of Harris boys showed and they generated a healthy lead and managed the game professionally to uphold their unbeaten run and come out triumphant.
As a result of their victory in this seven-school tournament, our school will now represent Southwark in the London Youth Games. Well done boys! And thank you to Mr May and Mr Maserejje for the organisation and support.
Man of the match - Crispin was by far the best player at the tournament.
Stepping Up - Joel had a pivotal role after the injury of David.
Hero - Rio was class in defence and stood firm when we needed him.
