Harris Experience Recent Trips
Over the past few weeks, our Year 9 and Year 10 Harris Experience cohort have been to Imperial College, Chrstie’s Auction House and Oxford University as part of the Harris Experience programme for our most able pupils.
Year 9 trip to Imperial College
Year 9s visited Imperial College in South Kensington to take part in a STEM day. We received lectures from Imperial’s top academics about recent developments in scientific findings, including artificial limbs and specialised materials that can help create shelter after natural disasters. Tom L took part in demonstrations on optical illusions and we even witnessed a tornado made from fire!
Year 10 visit to Oxford University
Year 10s were given an unprecedented opportunity to visit Oxford University where they were taught about the science behind cancer research and given the invaluable experience of talking to current students about life at Oxford. The boys thoroughly enjoyed their trip and relished the chance to have a ‘day in the life’ of an Oxford student. Many of the boys now have high aspirations to attend such an intuition in the quest for excellence.
Year 9 trip to Christie’s Auction House
A behind the scenes tour of Christie’s Auction House was on the agenda for Year 9 this month. We were given the most fantastic opportunity to delve further into the runnings of Christie’s flagship auction house in South Kensington. We learned about the history of James Christie and how he came to found the organisation in 1766. We saw live jewellery and art auctions taking place and were given an opportunity to look at some of the lots available for purchase in an upcoming book auction.
