Mock Trial for Year 10 Aspiring Lawyers
Aspiring lawyers in Year 10 took part in a mock trail recently as part of the Harris Experience programme.
Working in conjunction with Lawyer Portal, an industry group for aspiring lawyers, students studied a real legal case, practiced their analytical and debating skills, and then acted out a mock trial with every student playing a part.
Students learnt about the various roles within law and the responsibilities each uphold. They were informed of the various ways to get into the sector and the qualifications favoured by law firms.
This was followed by a workshop where pupils learnt how to develop arguments and debates based upon an objective rather than subjective foundation. They then tried out their skills in small groups discussing topics such as the ‘world’s best biscuit’ and ‘use of the death penalty’.
The students then reviewed a real case and underwent a mini trial in small groups before taking roles with the live mock trial at the end of the day. Thank you to the Lawyer Portal and their representatives for this opportunity.
