Royal Opera House Experience for Year 10
Students in Year 10 enjoyed a trip to the Royal Opera House recently to see the Royal Ballet's production of Mayerling. The trip was organised as part of the Harris Experience programme for our most able students.
Mayerling is based on the true story of the deaths of Crown Prince Rudolf and his teenage mistress Mary Vetsera in 1889. This dark and intense ballet was created for The Royal Ballet in 1978 and is regarded by many as among Kenneth MacMillan's finest works.
The choreography and technical elements for the lead role of Rudolf are renowned as being some of the most physically and emotionally demanding roles for male dancers.
This was an intense story of which the pupils had to decipher the dark and twisting schemes in order to uncover its dramatic plots. Thank you to both the Harris Federation and sponsors for this fantastic opportunity for the pupils.
