Numeracy Day, Thursday 2 July
Numeracy Day is taking place on Thursday 2nd July.
Pupils will receive a fun filled activity book where numeracy questions are posed from all subject areas.
However, it’s not as easy as it sounds! All solutions to problems will be worn by teachers, the pupils must match up their desired answer to the teacher’s name, but also being careful to watch out for the red herrings amongst staff.
We believe that everyone here at HBAED can reach a level of functional numeracy appropriate to their daily life and we intend to support all learners, and those working with learners, on their mathematical journey. This day allows for teacher student interaction and for students to build on their prior numerical understanding.
Alongside the great benefits pupils will see in their numeracy skills, we are also offering fantastic prizes to reward students for showing effort and engagement with the task. These prizes will include a Kindle Fire HD, Apple Ipod, chess game, footballs, speakers, table tennis bats, Nando’s Vouchers, WHSmith vouchers and many more!
To be a numerative student, pupils need to gain confidence and competence in understanding questions and applying mathematical knowledge, specifically in the real world. Skills such as this are also key to success across the curriculum as well as in later life.
Pupils will receive information about the day during assemblies in the week 29th June – 2nd July as well as from their form tutors in the run up to Numeracy Day.
