Return of the Warrior - Chris Bradford’s Visit Captivates Year 7
On Tuesday 12 November we welcomed the author Chris Bradford back to HBAED for a third time. Year 7 students, who had prepared for his visit by reading his books and hearing all about him in their library lessons, gathered in the assembly hall anticipating an exciting performance.
They were not disappointed, as Chris appeared dressed in a dramatic full-length black outfit complete with a genuine samurai sword.
His presentation combined videos about his Young Samurai series of books and film clips on various experts in martial arts with exciting demonstrations of his expertise with the samurai sword, which thrilled his audience and had many volunteering to take part in his demonstrations.
Shammah liked “the way he talked about Samurai and how to be a bodyguard, I think we should all read his books".
Chris spoke about his training in karate, ninjutsu and other martial arts as well as the preparation for his Bodyguard series of books, which involved an intensive close protection course to qualify as a bodyguard.
He also encouraged students to develop a love of reading for pleasure, and he read from some of his books, which involve many exciting action sequences and plot twists and turns.
He was impressed by how well-behaved and enthusiastic the students were and was pleased to see that some of them were holding copies of his books, which they had borrowed from our library.
Kaliek said: “I thought he was amazing and he inspired me to read his books.”
After the presentation some students had the opportunity to meet Chris and have their books signed.
Hassan summed it up for everyone, saying: “He was awesome, probably the best author I’ve seen and I hope he comes to visit again”.
