Year 7 Football – HBAED 5 Dunraven 1
HBAED go top of South London League after a dominant performance at home.
A mild but windy afternoon at King's College Sports Ground provided the backdrop for a resounding win and mature performance from Harris Year 7 boys.
HBAED started with intent, zipping the ball around the turf out from the back, leaving Dunraven chasing shadows. HBAED were patient in their approach, without being particularly dangerous in front of goal.
Oliver broke the deadlock with a strike from range that drifted over the keeper’s head into the top corner. We continued to take the game to Dunraven, going close from a corner and wasting a couple of chances, before a rare misplaced pass in midfield allowed a quick counter from Dunraven to level the score 1-1 at half time.
The start of the second half followed a familiar pattern to the first, HBAED moving the ball quickly, giving Dunraven no opportunity to win it back. The pressure finally told when Oliver wrestled off a defender and fired into the bottom corner for his, and our, second of the game.
Top performance
HBAED were flying now, and Francis killed any hopes of a Dunraven comeback in style, picking the ball up wide on the right, beat a defender and smashed in a left foot shot through the goalkeeper’s grasp. Hector then volleyed a fourth from close range after Josh’s shot from the edge of the area was parried out by the goalkeeper.
Harris Boys’ saved the best goal until last. Louis snuffed out a Dunraven attack, kept his composure to play out to Casper who drove forward, leaving Dunraven players in his wake, cut inside before playing a reverse pass to the substitute David, who finished expertly into the far corner to seal it 5-1.
A top performance from The Tangerines who keep getting better and better. Thank you to Mr May for refereeing the game.
Mr Cooper
Man of the match: Oliver played his first game back after a long injury lay off and was incredible. Defenders couldn’t handle his strength and power and it showed with two well-taken goals.
Unsung heroes: Daouda and Josh bossed the midfield. Physical and aggressive without the ball, neat and purposeful with the ball. A massive performance from the two midfielders.
Stepping up: David came off the bench in the second half, worked hard and was rewarded with his first goal for the team. Good performance and a nice finish.
