Celebrating National Poetry Day, 1st October 2020
October 1st is National Poetry Day, so we're inviting staff and students to stop by the pop-up library if you would like to find a moment of calm and engage with a poem.
We're printing out poems and putting them on our walls, and running a poetry competition for students (and staff!) to write a poem on the theme of 'Vision', the theme of National Poetry Day this year. Closing date: Friday 16 October.
If you want to read an amazing verse novel, Ms Mead has just finished last year’s Carnegie Prize Winner, The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, and thoroughly recommends it. "It's a perfect segue from National Poetry Day into Black History Month – it’s stunning and available from the pop-up library," she says.
As John Cooper Clarke says: "Poetry is the shortest way of conveying something really big.”
