Year 9 Harris Experience Launch Event 2021-22
The Harris Experience is a cultural and academic enhancement programme for our Most Able secondary school students across the Harris Federation from Year 9 to Year 11.
The Harris Experience Programme aims to broaden students' cultural and academic experiences to give them outstanding preparation for some of the country’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Usually, selected students (together with their parents) across the Harris Federation meet at a chosen location. However, due to the covid-19 limitations, this autumn the Harris Experience Launch Event took place virtually and our students enthusiastically represented the academy.
It was a celebration of inspirational examples of historic and modern intellects from around the world. The students were given insight into the opportunities available for them to fulfil their ever growing potential.
Speeches were given by the leaders of the Harris Experience along with former students who are part of the Harris Experience alumni, giving our boys a glimpse of what they have got to look forward to.
Our students were excited by the upcoming events and looking forward to the future opportunities.
What students said...
“I did not realise that being part of this programme could enable me to get into Oxford or Cambridge university someday...”
“I am looking forward to visiting some of these top universities because I would like to go to one...”
“My parents never went to university; I would like to make it to one of the top ones...”
The students were later presented with a certificate of their achievement on getting on to the programme, and as a gesture of agreement to participate within all activities. Upcoming sessions include an ethical philosophy masterclass, maths and logic masterclass and STEM masterclass, among others.
We hope these new learning experiences will become apparent in the Year 9 work within classrooms across the academy. Thank you to all staff, parents and students who made the event such a success.
