Harry, Year 9, Wins Remembrance Day Poetry Writing Competition
Congratulations to Harry in Year 9 for winning our library’s Remembrance Day Poetry Writing Competition.
Choosing a distinctive tone with strong rhyme and vivid imagery, he wrote a rap to commemorate the lives of soldiers who fought in World War 1. Well done Harry for your efforts and we are happy to publish it for you to read and enjoy below.
Remembrance Day Rap
By Harry Gamester
Today we remember people who died in a war,
They saw their friends die,
Must have been an eye-sore.
Out there, shooting guns and bombs,
Just to defend the United Kingdom.
They had to have their wits about them,
Be as sharp as a knife,
Out there on the front-lines,
Fighting for their life.
Most of these people, were like you and me,
Sent to a bloodbath, as you can see.
All these people, in the battle grounds,
Listening to the sirens
And all the other sounds.
Every one of those men,
Running from the sirens,
What do we have to hold?
A two-minute silence.
Well done to all the boys that entered the competition. Be sure to be on the lookout for many other competitions that the library will be holding in the future.
