Year 7 Visit Building Site To Learn About Sustainability
A group of Year 7 students went on a school trip to a building site in central London recently to learn about sustainability, employment opportunities, and take part in a construction challenge involving some surprising materials.
The students were given a talk on the various employment opportunities in the construction industry, ranging from engineers and plumbers to designers and electricians. They also learned about the qualifications and training needed for different positions and the various pathways to enter the industry, including apprenticeships and vocational courses.
The students also participated in a construction challenge involving spaghetti and marshmallows. They were divided into teams and given a limited amount of time to design and construct the highest possible tower using just these materials. This activity helped to reinforce the importance of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for success in the construction industry.
The trip was a great success with students being able to see first-hand how a building site operates and how the principles of sustainable design are integrated into construction projects.
