Boni's Bagful Blasts Brilliant Harris Boys' Beyond Quarter Finals
It would be a mistake to glance at the 8-3 scoreline and imagine a comfortable win for Year 10 in the South London Cup quarter final; this was a hard earned victory, with aggression, resilience and determination. That’s before we get on to the quality of the performance.
The match started evenly with nothing to separate the two teams, but a lovely volley from the Globe striker put the opposition ahead. However, HBAED have made a habit of coming from behind and a flick from Oliver set Aaron free to finish and level the score.
Immediately after, Stanley launched a counter attack with a precision kick to Aaron to side foot into the net and put us ahead. A freak goal let Globe back into the game to tie at 2-2, but HBAED bounced back again with Aaron destroying his full back and planting a cross on Oliver’s head to glance into the far corner. Aaron sealed a first half to remember as he completed his hattrick with a dink over the goalkeeper to put us 4-2 at half time.
The key to the second half was maintaining the same level of intensity and Year 10 started exactly as they left off, with Aaron and Oliver combining brilliantly to allow Oliver to drive in his second and then round the keeper to add his third.
Casper’s excellent performance was capped with a goal, arriving late into the box and seizing on a cut-back to slam home. Ishmael entered as a substitute and was lively, crossing to the far post for Aaron to ghost in for his fourth. A late consolation from Globe took the score to 8-3, and late heroics from Stanley with some superb saves meant we could see the score out.
A brilliant win against a tough side – HBAED are into the Semi Finals of the South London Cup.
