Exploring STEM Careers at the Science Museum
We are thrilled to report on the recent school trip to the Science Museum, where 30 boys from Year 9 had the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of science and technology.
This outing was a well-deserved reward for their exceptional effort and dedication to the subject throughout the year.
The journey to the Science Museum was quite lengthy but filled with anticipation and excitement. Upon arrival, the students were immediately immersed in the captivating atmosphere of the museum. The highlight of their visit was the newly opened Technicians Gallery, which provided them with a unique and interactive experience.
In the Technicians Gallery, the students participated in three different "Meet an Employee" workshops. These workshops simulated the work environments of technicians in various sectors, including health science, manufacturing, and construction. The boys had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, enabling them to gain practical experience and a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities of technicians in these fields.
During the workshops, the students actively participated in Q&A sessions with the technicians. This interactive dialogue allowed them to enquire about the educational paths, skill sets, and day-to-day challenges faced by professionals in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers. Such insightful discussions provided the boys with valuable guidance and sparked their interest in pursuing similar pathways in the future.
Following the engaging workshops, the students had the chance to explore the diverse exhibitions throughout the museum. They had access to a wide range of displays, each offering a unique perspective on different scientific disciplines. From astrophysics to biology, the boys had the opportunity to explore and learn about various scientific concepts in an engaging and interactive manner.
Throughout the day, the students showcased exemplary behaviour, representing Harris Boys' Academy with pride and professionalism. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were evident, and they actively engaged with the educational opportunities provided to them.
Overall, the school trip to the Science Museum was an unforgettable experience for all involved. The Technicians Gallery and the workshops provided an excellent platform for the students to gain hands-on experience and valuable insights into potential STEM careers. The exhibitions further enriched their scientific knowledge and inspired their curiosity about the world around them.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Science Museum staff for organising such a well-structured and educational visit. Additionally, we extend our appreciation to the students for their exemplary behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the day. Their dedication to science is commendable, and we are confident that this trip has further motivated them to pursue their scientific passions.
