Cool Music in the Summer Heat - Summer Showcase Report
On 12th July 2023, Harris Boys’ assembly hall was yet again filled with music and applause as talented acts from KS3 and KS4 performed in front of an enthusiastic audience.
The concert was organised by Ms Bee and the Performing Arts team, including our instrument teachers, and featured a wide variety of genres, from classical to pop, from solo singers to bands. The audience of over 150 people, comprised of parents, teachers and other performers, hugely enjoyed the show and cheered for every performer.
A special shout-out goes to our ‘First-time Performers’. It was great to see so many new faces take the stage: Kaylen, Ming, Mohammed K, Cesar, Ola A, Arran, Gustavo, Daniel A, Pietro, Jacob U, Remi, Caleb F, Noel L, Miles B, Zayd R and Noah C!
Pietro provided us with a special moment of resilience because, as he sang, he realised the lyrics to his song weren’t there! After a first attempt, he then showed the resilience to explain to audience that he was going to start again, and with the full support of the crowd he did an amazing job.
Later, the large group performances dazzled the audience: the Drum Collectives were inspirational and the Harris Voices choir melded different-aged voices beautifully in a very emotional piece. There were first-time outings for the Jazz bands as well, and their songs were a real treat.
The last act was the now famous vocal duet of Malek and Gus who again brought down the house with their harmony and stage presence, ending the concert with a bang.
A final announcement caused excitement amongst our students: the next show will be… ‘Bugsy Malone’! We are very much looking forward to seeing this in the new year!
Overall, the concert was a great success and showcased the talent and musically diversity of the school. The performers received an amazing ovation and many compliments from the audience.
Our Music department under the leadership of Ms Bee is going from strength to strength. Ms Bee and the instrument teachers have been fantastic in in organising the event and preparing the students to perform – a huge thank you to them. They should be very proud of the supportive and ambitious musical environment they have created!
