HBAED Triumph in East Dulwich Derby
In their first competitive game of the 2023-24 season, Harris Boys’ Year 11 picked up where they finished Year 10 (winning the Harris Cup), by trouncing Charter North Dulwich in a local derby in the first round of the Inner London Cup.
The match started evenly, with half chances for both sides, but nothing substantial, until the end of the first half, when Aaron lofted a through ball over the defence for Oliver to sprint on to, round the goalkeeper and slot left-footed into an open net.
After a cagey first half, the second half belonged to HBAED. Again, Oliver was set loose in behind the defence, again rounding the goalkeeper, but this time was brought down with the goal gaping to earn a penalty.
Oliver picked himself up, dusted himself off and emphatically smashed his penalty into the top right corner for 2-0. It was now one-way traffic, and Ishmael came off the bench to side-step his marker and convert for 3-0 after Aaron had beaten three defenders on a mazy run before unselfishly squaring to him.
In the last minutes of the game, Aaron floated a wide free kick into the penalty area, and it was Oliver who rose highest and powered a header low into the bottom corner for his (perfect) hat-trick.
A comfortable 4-0 win and a routine win against a historically tough side. The season has started brightly for Year 11.
