Student Council Attend Neurodiversity Conference
Felix, Year 10, reports on the Student Council's visit to the Neurodiversity Conference, hosted by Southwark Schools Learning Partnership (SSLP)
For the academic year 2022-23 the theme for SSLP was sustainability, for which the Student Council created and launched the Sustainability Cooking Club. This academic year, the theme is neurodiversity – the different ways a person's brain processes information.
On Wednesday, we began by listening to speeches by Katie Barretta, the former SSLP leader who now leads Beyond Words, a charity which makes picture books for people who struggle to understand English, and other experts in neurodiversity.
Afterwards, the attendees were split into groups to work on our projects. After playing some team-building games, we got to work on planning our project, which will be a written word competition inspired by neurodiversity. We worked in sub-teams to finalise the details of our project, and we will be meeting again soon to complete the project and present it to the other schools.
