Year 10 Geographers Become Urban Planners
Urban Plan visited the school today to deliver an engaging experience of working in the built environment and development industry for 30 of our Y10 Geography Students.
The students were split into five 'development companies' and used great teamwork skills to demonstrate to industry professionals why their team should gain the opportunity to develop a new town centre.
The students used design models and electronic financial tools to plan the scale of the development, mix of land-uses and the level of affordable housing while also having to meet important sustainability and financial targets. This provided students with a valuable experience of an important employment sector in London as well as applying some of the concepts and theories that they have been learning in GCSE Geography.
Following an impressive round of pitches to the industry professionals the winning team was announced as Eco Urban Futures. Well done to Muhammed, Henry, Joel, Dylan, Marley and Sebastian, who were commended for their excellent teamwork, great communication and attention to detail in their presentation. All teams were commended by the providers and professionals for their high level of engagement and very professional delivery. The winning group will get to attend a Celebration Event at City Hall in July.
A big thank you to Richard and Leonie from Urban Plan for coming in to deliver an excellent and engaging workshop and to Jenny Daniels from Grosvenor, Louise Campbell from Native Land and Martin Wedderburn from Wedderburn Transport Planning for taking time out of their busy schedules to support and judge the students' proposals.
