Spelling Bee Team Does HBAED Proud
Earlier this week a team of four students from HBAED travelled to Harris Academy Sutton to compete in The Harris Spelling Bee Competition. Although our team was not placed, their performance was superb.
The Harris Spelling Bee Competition challenges the spelling ability of Year 7 students across the whole Harris Federation, which meant our team of Younes, Lawrence, Artur and Chowdhury was up against some stiff competition.
They played really well - taking on very challenging words such as onomatopoeia, armageddon, connoisseur, fluorescent, leprechaun, garrulous and haemorrhage.
Outstandingly, in the buzzer round, one of our boys took on some of the most challenging words and got them correct - and was cheered on by the audience in the hall for his bravery. "It was quite fun because we got to see other schools compete," said Musa, Year 7. "The tension, the nerve and the thrill of it made it exciting."
The boys, who were selected by English teachers for their spelling prowess, played really well and we are very proud of their efforts. This experience has led our boys to appreciate their place as part of a bigger Federation too, as they witness other schools in action.
