Years 9 and 11 Visit the Houses of Parliament
Year 9 and Year 11 GCSE Citizenship students enjoyed a tour around the Houses of Parliament in January to learn about the importance of democracy and the role of parliament.
The trip built on our Citizenship curriculum which focuses on Life in Modern Britain, Rights & Responsibilities and Politics. This term Year 9 have learnt about laws and how they are created through our democratic process and Year 11 completed their Politics and Participation unit.
By visiting the Houses of Parliament students got to bring their learning to life as they saw the institutions where policy is made. They also had the opportunity to locate the statues in Parliament Square of pioneering figures which they have learnt about across their humanities subjects such as Milicent Fawcett, leader of the Suffragists, Winston Churchill and Mahatma Gandhi.
Bringing learning to life. The trip built on what students have been learning about politics and the democratic process.
