Comfortable Win for Year 9 in Football Friendly Against Battersea

A report on our Year 9 football team's victory in a friendly against Harris Battersea, written by team goalkeeper Elshaddai.

In a one-sided showdown across the river against Harris Battersea, our boys in orange delivered an astounding performance, overwhelming their opponents with a resounding scoreline of 7-2. From the very beginning, it was clear that HBAED dominated every aspect of the game, leaving the opposition struggling to keep up.

Within just one minute of the whistle being blown, intensity built up as a 50/50 duel saw Matthew comfortably win and act out a stepover sending his defender and slotting it bottom corner to start us off. 1-0.

With precise passing and pouncing on lost possessions, we rightfully won a corner. Kamil took it in which he scored with the keeper struggling to keep it out of the net. It was like a typical FIFA game; never would you see this – only from the boys in East Dulwich!

Despite their best efforts, Battersea could not match the pace and skill of HBAED. Our third goal did not take too long because just like vintage Barca, it was evident that tiki-taka was in the HBAED DNA. Stemming from our skipper Jayden, he played it into in-form Matthew who released a backdoor pass to his partner-in-crime Jacob who did what he was born to do. BANG! 3-0.

We were on a roll, however, anything could stir this game up. From a fairly controversial dive, they won a free kick on the edge of the box. An unlucky deflection saw the visitors get one back. 3-1. Wow! Four goals in just the first half; surely there couldn’t be more?

Well, you couldn’t be any more wrong. Our debutant Zamaan who seemed to be more than hungry for a debut goal was gifted a crisp cross by Jacob and calmly headed into the back of the net for 4-1. What a start to his debut! It was clear that our number 9 Jacob wasn't satisfied with just one assist as he showcased five star skills and played it to Matthew who casually got his second of the game and the last of the first half. 5-1.

After an uplifting half time talk from Mr. Humphreys we were up and running for the second half. Momentum seemed to have built up within the opposition's minds as they had few chances within our half. Brilliant defending from our rock at the back Kaleb, new addition Herland and goalkeeper Elshaddai saw Battersea’s chances come to no avail.

The motif of determination saw Jacob pounce on a counter attack which just about hit the bar but ended up in Nathan’s feet which was saved by their keeper but eventually rebounded by Samir. 6-1.

With a ray of hope Battersea ran on the attack heading for goal but was denied by Elshaddai twice, however it rebounded in to make it 6-2. The match still wasn’t done yet at all. Typical London weather at its best saw downpour of rain drench the pitch. However, that didn’t seem to worry the boys in orange at all.

A play practiced repeatedly in training reflected in the game as the play that started with passing from the defense ended up as a goal. With Jayden’s control in the midfield, he was able to play a wide ball to Herland who made a sublime pass to Jacob who made it his second and the game’s last. A comfortable 7-2 win on home turf.
