HBAED Referendum. Get the Result.
Voting took place today in our own referendum to decide if students and teachers wanted to leave or remain in the EU.
STOP PRESS: Our result just out. In our vote, 84% voted to REMAIN and 14% voted to leave. A massive majority for REMAIN!
In the weeks running up to the vote, students looked at a wide range of issues relating to the referendum.
They examined the debates shown on TV, for example, and the psychology of persuasion.
They learned how elections/referendums are run, and asked the question: “Why don’t the politicians just decide for us?”
On the day before polling they focused on the final key points for and against, in time for the voting, which took place today in form time.
All staff and students voted. "Our students took on board the issues and discussed them with more maturity than was sometimes shown by politicians," said Mr Walsh.
The votes are being counted today and the result will be announced tomorrow. Will our decision be the same as the country's as a whole?
We'll find out tomorrow!
Blank ballot papers. Students get ready to cast their votes anonymously in form time.
Mr Walsh takes one form's ballot box to the hall for counting.
