Handball - HBAED 32 Southfields 10
Yesterday the Under 13 handball team played against Southfields in Round 1 of the London Youth Games.
The team were full of confidence in the minibus on the way to the match. Following a poor performance in their last game they knew they would have to step it up in this match to get the win.
Harris came out of the blocks quickly and were relentless from the start. Gareth, Jamal and Tyller were slick with the ball and got some early points on the board.
Southfields found it hard to respond and when they did manage to evade the solid backline of Nicouri, Harry and Charles, they were unable to find a way past the excellent Shiek in goal.
After a frantic start it was inevitable that some of the boys would tire, this allowed Southfields to find some gaps and register a couple of goals. However, the Under 13 team have strength in depth and the introduction of Hermann, Vinoth, Deshaun and Afolabi proved too much for the Wandsworth side.
Harris ended up winning 32-10. A comprehensive win but the boys know they will face much tougher sides as the competition progresses.
Special mentions go to Shiek for stepping up in a Year 8 dominated team and pulling out some great saves. Man of the match goes to Gareth for his excellent composure on the ball and superb accuracy with his shooting that led to countless Harris goals.
Man of the match: Gareth - accurate shooting and excellent composure on the ball.
Special mention: Shiek - demonstrated superb agility and wasn’t afraid to put his body on the line.
