Football - Harris St John's Wood 1 HBAED 12
Last week the Year 8 football team were taught a lesson by Kingsdale in the South London Cup. Yesterday, they responded in the best way possible, hitting 12 goals past Harris Academy St John's Wood in the Harris Cup.
Joshua G got his first call up to the Year 8 team following his impressive start for the Year 7s. Barely two minutes were on the clock before he put his stamp on the game, rifling a shot into the roof of the net from 15 yards.
Lovely two-touch football
Ramari added a quick-fire second, cutting in from the left and sticking the ball into the bottom corner. Harris Boys' were playing some lovely two touch football, before a defensive error led to St John's Wood pulling a goal back. Any concerns of a collapse were diminished when Joshua I curled a beautiful effort into the top right corner from 25 yards. Before the first half was up there was still time for Joshua G to add his second of the game, rounding the keeper after a lovely through ball from Ramari.
Although the boys in orange were 4-1 up, there was still work to be done. The message at half time was to stop complicating things and be more ruthless in front of goal. It didn’t take long before Joshua G completed his first hat-trick of the game, after some intricate play between Tayo and Joshua I, Joshua G fired a low effort in off the post.
Ever-reliable keeper
Harris Boys were now flying, further goals from Qasim, Jason, two for Lemar and another three from Joshua G completed the rout. St John's Wood did have a number of chances in the second half but the ever-reliable Nour in goal thwarted any danger with some excellent saves.
The Year 8 team march on into the next round of the cup and surely the other Harris academies will be running scared when they see this result!?
