Football - HBAED 2 Kingsdale 2 (HBAED win on pens)
As these two Year 10 teams met for a thrilling and tight match in the final of the South London Cup last year, it was a shame that one would be knocked out early on in the rounds this season.
The game started with both sides battling for the ball and trying to stop each other’s identified threats in attack. This played out the whole of the first half, with both teams having a few chances blocked by each goal keeper.
A slight change in momentum led to Kingsdale managing a scrappy goal after a double save from Ahmed landed at the feet of an attacking player. A second goal soon followed, with some good footwork leading to the attacker cutting inside of our defence and scoring a rocket from within the penalty area.
More chances
An adjustment in tactics and formation by Harris Boys' enabled us to create more chances and the first came from the midfield who slipped a disguised through ball to Dylan to hit on the half turn. This pressure persisted and several corners were conceded by Kingsdale. After some near missed and good goal keeping, the cross landed perfectly at the feet of Gareth who snatched the chance to level the game late on.
More pressure in the dying seconds nearly allowed Harris to steal the result at the death, however this fixture was yet again destined for extra-time.
Penalty win
The tension from the sideline was too much for some to handle, nevertheless this did not impact the quality of the play and Harris put more pressure on the Kingsdale line to no avail.
This mirrored the final of past years and this time momentum was with Harris at the final whistle. Idris, Dario and Dylan scored all of their penalties and thanks to the outstanding Ahmed (who saved three out of our) were handed the ticket into the semi finals. Next match is against COLA. Thanks to all staff who supported this fixture.
