City Law Firm Donates £1,500 Worth of Books to Our Library
The school library is delighted to announce the donation of £1,500 to spend on new books.
The money has been raised by City law firm, Dechert, who last year also donated £5,000 worth of calculators to the academy.
The first delivery of books has just arrived and student librarians helped Ms Mead, our librarian, to unpack the new stock.
Among the latest acquisitions are lots of new graphic novels which are hugely popular with our boys, including illustrated versions of To Kill A Mockingbird, The Odyssey, The Hobbit, Anne Frank’s Diary and Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights.
There is an exciting range of new fiction from our best-loved authors such as Alex Wheatle, Robert Muchamore, Anthony Horowitz and Taran Matharu.
We also received several full sets of the shortlisted titles for this year’s Carnegie Medal, the most prestigious award in children’s fiction, which will enable our shadowing group to read all the books and take part in the national vote later this term.
The second half of the money will be spent in the next few weeks and will include new non-fiction titles to supplement our curriculum stock.
Staff and students would like to thank Dechert for their generosity and the efforts involved in this fundraising. This gift will have a huge impact on the reading opportunities for the boys in our academy.
