Coventry University Open Day - Report
On the 30th March 2022, our Year 12 and 13 students had the opportunity to attend an open day at Coventry University organised by Harris Federation.
Along with four other Harris sixth forms, we were split into groups where we were given a tour of the campus. The tour guides provided us with in-depth knowledge on what it is like to study at Coventry University.
We were first taken to the faculty for health and life sciences, where we were able to see their gym and the equipment provided for cardiovascular training; for example, treadmills with masks to breathe into for heart rate measurement.
Other groups were allowed to look at fake bodies as well as a fake ambulance used for medical courses. Another highlight of the visit was being shown around the engineering facilities and seeing the available equipment there, such as the Formula 1 simulators and aircraft engines on display.
The entire tour inspired our students and gave them the insight they wanted when considering university. From the student village to the enormous library, and even individual buildings all designed for the aid of different courses, Coventry University gave them the insight into the significant difference between what it's like to be at a university compared to a sixth form.
Overall, the trip to Coventry university was a success, considering our limited timeframe. Being able to experience the atmosphere of a whole new city helped our students gain an understanding of the differences in culture and diversity between living in London and the city of Coventry.
What our students said…
"The trip to Coventry University was worth it. It gave us a real-life experience on how uni life is. There was a lot to offer, and they have a lot of facilities such as gym, study area and many more." Mohiuddin, Year 12 IT student
"The tours were insightful and interesting especially for students interested in sport or courses related to engineering and business." David, Year 12 IT student
