Year 7 See Uplifting '& Juliet' At Shaftesbury Theatre
Almost all Year 7 students went to see a wonderful West End production, & Juliet, at The Shaftesbury Theatre this month.
This was a fun, feminist makeover of Romeo and Juliet with wonderful and uplifting performances from a great ensemble cast, with our students delighted to meet the actress and actor who played the Juliet and Romeo (pictured).
Year 7 are excited to meet the actress and actor who play the main characters in & Juliet.
The Year 7 students were able to witness a full range of representation on the stage, broadening their insights into the wider world and there are poignant moments, such as a rousing rendition of the coming-of-age ballad I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman by May, a character who struggles with gender and identity.
Many of the boys were seeing a West End production for the first time and they came out of the theatre, filled with joy and delight at having had the experience, one they will remember for a long time to come.
By the end of the show, they were up on their feet dancing and singing, along with staff and the rest of the theatre audience. It was a wonderful way to be introduced to the play as well as to celebrate bringing stories to life on stage. This production given four stars by The Guardian, was a huge success and was both informative, emotional and highly entertaining.
What the boys had to say about the performance
"The play & Juliet was an entertaining play with a lot of twists and turns." Adam Year 7
"An outstanding performance including lots of tension and a slight change of plans. Overall it was a very entertaining play which is recommended." Harpreet, Year 7
''& Juliet was a refreshing twist on a masterpiece. It was a meta sort of play with lots of twists and turns - you could describe it as a story of two tales. I would recommend this play to someone who is looking for an upbeat, modern theatrical experience." Victor, Year 7
