Zoonation workshop for GCSE Year 9 dancers
On Tuesday 3 March GCSE Year 9 students took part in a two hour workshop with Shaun Smith Michael Ureta from Zoonation Dance Company .
After the year 9 students visited The Royal Opera House in December to watch Zoonation’s production of The Mad Hatters Tea Party, students enjoyed the piece so much that the dance department organised a workshop for them to extend their knowledge and skills in street dance.
The workshop started with a thorough cardio warm up followed by a variety of stepping sequences and travelling exercises from the back of the room. The students then went on to learn a technical house routine that challenged their musicality and movement memory skills. The workshop ended with a freestyle showcase where the students as well as Zoonation dancers got to show off their skills.
The workshop was an excellent experience for the students to experience another style of dance and to work with current professional dancers. The movement they learned will form the basis of their next performance piece…watch this space!
