Read about some of the great things happening in our Music department - from school shows to performances and tuition.
HBAED visits Cadogan Hall
Thirty HBAED students were given the chance to see a live orchestra perform music from great Ballet composers including Ravel, Stravinsky and Rossini. Students blown away by the sound produced by the orchestra, and got the chance to meet members of the orchestra and ask questions too.
Many of the students are studying GCSE Music so this experiences complements their course well.
Music lessons and clubs start
There are currently over 120 music lessons taking place weekly, supported by our fantastic peripatetic tutors who have been running lessons and clubs including Guitar/Music (Mr Mosley), Piano/Vocals (Mr Reid) and Drums (Mr Cleasby). Clubs on offer:
- Music Tech
- Guitar Clubs
- Drumming Clubs
- Harris Boys Voices
- Jazz Clubs (KS3, KS4 and KS5)
This is set to increase further with new instrumental lessons in brass, woodwind and strings starting soon. If your son wishes to join one of these clubs, make sure to speak to Ms Bee. Once our new instrumental lessons have started, more clubs will be on offer!
Show auditions - Bugsy Malone
After the success of our previous two shows (The Wiz and The School of Rock) Bugsy Malone will be coming to HBAED in February 2024.
We recently had our auditions, which attracted the highest ever number of HBAED hopefuls. The talent was outstanding, which has made choosing characters very difficult! The parts will be announced very soon.
New! The Harris Boys Music Academy
Six talented musicians from Year 12 have been selected to be part of our new initiative for this year - Dilhan, Xulian, Maxwell, Matteo, Cheng and Nathaniel.
Dilhan, Xulian, Maxwell and Matteo wowed prospective parents at our Open Evening playing an array of songs as parents entered, including pieces ranging from Debussy to Stevie Wonder.
Jamie and Ammar (GCSE Music Students) also performed to parents ahead of the head’s address at open evening.
Well done for their pieces of some beautiful music and a big well done to all the students involved!
Paw Patrol - featuring Ms Bee!
For those with younger siblings who may be Paw Patrol fans, a new game has been released across all major platforms for the franchise and our very own Ms Bee helped to record the music for the game.
The Composer, Chris Whiter, who visited HBAED last year to run a workshop with our GCSE students, composed the music for the game. If you have a chance to check it out, make sure to listen out for the lower string parts to hear Ms Bee in action!
