Chess Club Enjoys Warm Notre Dame School Welcome
The chess community is known for its camaraderie and sportsmanship. Chess players like nothing better than to come together to play, learn, and share their love for the game with others.
Such an event took place on Thursday 23rd November, when ten members of HBAED’s Chess Club went to Notre Dame RC Secondary Girls’ School for a friendly chess meet-up.
The event was held in the magnificent library of Notre Dame. We were very warmly welcomed by the wonderful Note Dame students and then settled down to play some chess.
All students played a series of friendly but competitive games, and this was a great opportunity for the students to showcase their chess skills and sportsmanship. Students from a variety of year groups took part. The students from both schools showed great enthusiasm and skill throughout. The games were exciting, with both sides learning a lot, such as some new openings.
The event was a great success, and it was a testament to the spirit of the chess community. At the end of the meetup, we were delighted to nominate some members of Notre Dame for some small prizes for their sportsmanship, and very grateful to those students Notre Dame who nominated some of our students as well.
Alfie said: “Smiles were exchanged, many games played and ultimately it was a great day!”
It was a reminder that chess is not just a game, but a way of life.
Many thanks to Ms. Tyson-Banks for organising the event, and to Notre Dame RC Secondary Girls’ School for hosting us so well. We are greatly looking forward to making the most this connection with further meetups.
